Description
Olive trees in a winter sunset.
Unfortunately, millions of olive trees in Apulia have been attacked by the xylella bacteria that has caused them to wither and die. There is no cure for this disease but for more than a year there have been experimental techniques. This bacterium has also caused billions in economic losses and the loss of 5,000 jobs. Now there is hope because with the grafting technique, diseased olive trees are returning to produce oil again. Olive oil is a staple in the Mediterranean diet.
